Eddie George Open To The Idea Of Retiring As Titan

Former Titans running back Eddie George left a lasting impression with coaches, fans and opponents alike, but the 10,000 yard rusher recently said he would like to return to the organization that drafted him in 1996 — even if it happened to be just 24 hours.

The former franchise running back said he was open to the idea of signing a one-day contract with the organization that still felt like home.

”I would love to retire as a Titan,” George told WTVF-TV. ”I would be open to signing a one-day contract.”

”They know my number. They know how to get in touch with me. If they would like to make it happen, let’s make it happen.”

”That’s up to [Titans Owner] Bud Adams.”

In eight seasons as an Oiler/Titan, George gained 10,009 yards, scored 64 touchdowns and was voted to the Pro Bowl four times. And though he’s no longer striving for that extra yard at LP Field, George has agreed to serve as a member of the Fisk University board of trustees. He also is working in landscape architecture, a degree he earned from Ohio State.

George fielded questions in the television interview that ranged from Titans quarterback Vince Young to Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Terrell Owens. He was even asked if he would return to the Titans as a coach, where his motivational speeches could once again inspire the roster.

The former Ohio State Buckeye and Heisman Trophy winner said he had no aspirations of coaching, but said he could see himself serving as a General Manager possibly five to ten years down the road.

George played for the Titans from 1996 to 2003, and finished his NFL career as a Dallas Cowboy for one season.

Now years after his final NFL game, George said he hoped he could hear the chants of ”Eddie” echo through LP Field on final time and go out where he came in.

As a Titan.

Justin Zwick makes AFL debut

Former Ohio State Buckeyes and Ohio high school prep star Justin Zwick will make his Arena Football League debut at quarterback on Saturday when the Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, play their final home game of the 2008 season against the Grand Rapids Rampage. Game time from Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Zwick, who is playing in his first AFL season, has not seen action at the position for the Destroyers through the first 14 games of the campaign. Veteran Matt Nagy, who has been outstanding for the club in 2008 completing 310-of-484 passes for 65 touchdowns with seven interceptions, will start Saturday’s game before Zwick makes his debut.

A 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Orrville, Ohio, Zwick starred at Orville (1998-99) and Massillon Washington High Schools (2000-01) earning prep All-American honors and finishing his career among the most prolific passers in Ohio history. After redshirting as a freshman, he played four seasons for the Buckeyes from 2003-06. He completed 158-of-276 passes for 1,779 yards and seven touchdowns and, as a sophomore, guided the team to 2004 Alamo Bowl win over Oklahoma State by completing 17-of-27 for 189 yards and a touchdown.

Single game tickets starting at just $15 are on sale now at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, ticketmaster Ticket Centers, ticketmaster.com, ColumbusDestroyers.com and FSN Ohio Blue Line team stores located at The Mall at Tuttle Crossing, Chiller Easton, Chiller Dublin and Chiller North.

Only on game nights, the Huntington $10 Ticket Blitz offers available lower bowl seats, regularly priced at $28, for just $10 at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office two hours prior to game time. In addition, two hours before kickoff at the arena ticket office, college and high school students with a valid full-time student ID can purchase Raising Cane’s Student Tickets for just $7. Students receive a voucher for a FREE Raising Cane’s box combo with each ticket purchased.

Tonight on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday night, the Los Angeles Avengers and Utah Blaze go to battle for one of the remaining National Conference playoff spots. Catch the action LIVE at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2-HD.

Former Buckeye, Doss, goes back for degree

A former Buckeyes football player this weekend receives the Ohio State diploma he never got when he left the university for the NFL more than five years ago

Mike Doss says football isn’t forever. So, he took classes at Ohio State during the last three NFL offseasons and will graduate on Sunday.

He says he’s more proud of getting his degree than he is of being an NFL draft pick or playing in the league.

The safety spent four seasons with the Buckeyes before withdrawing from classes after the 2002 season. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round and later played for the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent.

Doss says when he told Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel that he was graduating, Tressel was ecstatic and couldn’t stop hugging him.
