This Saturday, Ohio U. (0-1) will enter Ohio Stadium to take on the (1-0) Buckeyes with a loss to the always feisty Wyoming Cowboys in Larramie. The big question on everybody’s mind is, will Beanie be ready? Well I really don’t care if he is ready for OU. If he is I would bet he wouldn’t play more than 20 plays and not carry much of a load. I think Tress is comfortable with the trio of Herron, Saine and Mo Wells taking on the running game over against the Bobcats.
I’ve heard the pundits on ESPN say that they better get Pryor ready to run but don’t expect Tress to bite. We need Beanie at 100% for the Big One in Southern Cal.
Although OU will be overmatch physically, they have some tools to stay in the game if they get some breaks. No I’m not saying they have a chance to win but they can keep it close for awhile. The reason I say that is they have an experienced returning QB in Theo Scott who comes from Long Beach Poly so you know he is an athlete. His passing has gotten better but the Bucks have always had trouble with mobile quarterbacks. He’ll be throwing to his favorite target in Hilliard Darby’s Taylor Price who caught 14 balls vs. Wyoming for 139. If the offensive line can keep the hard charging Buckeye D from killing Scott and he can keep them off balance, they could make it close through three.
With or without Beanie, I think the OU defense is going to have trouble stopping OSU’s offense. Look for Tress to stay on the ground and wear them down early then pop in Pryor to widen them back out and go deep a few times later. Jameson Hartke is an all MAC performer at the end but at 262 lbs. he weighs about as much as one of Alex Boone’s legs. He has good technique but will run out of gas if they can’t get him a breather on the long drives. Michael Mitchell at safety is a four year starter but you’ll find him sneaking up to help in the running game and then “BAM” Robiskie, Hartline, Posey, Small, Thomas or Sanzenbacher over the top.
Buckeye’s still need work on kick coverage but the kicking game is looking good and let’s see if Ray Small can get a long one without a flag.
In the end speed, size and depth will just wear down the Bobcats. I see them getting tired and making mistakes where the Bucks will take advantage. I would like to see a few of those field goals from last week turned into touchdowns and I think we will this week.
GO BUCKS!
