Former Buckeye Bob Knight headed to Army Sports Hall of Fame

Bob Knight, who started his college coaching career at Army and led the Black Knights to four NIT appearances in six seasons, has been selected for induction into the Army Sports Hall of Fame.

Knight attended Ohio State and was a member of the Buckeye team that won the NCAA championship in 1960. After graduating with a degree in history and government, Knight was an assistant coach at Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) High School for one year before entering the U.S. Army. He was assigned to assist coach Tates Locke at West Point, and when Locke became head coach at Miami (Ohio) University in 1965, Knight was named to succeed him at age 24.

Knight, who holds the all-time record for wins in men’s Division I college basketball with 902, led Army to a 102-50 record before leaving for Indiana.

Buckeye Kevin Buchanan picked fifth overall in MLL Draft

Ohio State men’s lacrosse senior attackman Kevin Buchanan was drafted fifth overall in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft held Wednesday night at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. Buchanan, a second team All-American in 2008, was selected by the Los Angeles Riptide, who already have former Buckeyes Greg Bice (2001-04) and Anthony Kelly (2000-03) on their roster.

Buchanan, a native of Cockeysville, Md., and the 2008 Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Year, ended his career second all-time in scoring at Ohio State with 175 points. He is fourth in OSU history with 78 career assists and ninth with 97 career goals. He led the Buckeyes in goals (44) and points (76) in 2008 as he earned first-team all-conference honors for the third-consecutive season and ranked in the Top 10 in the NCAA in goals, assists and points per game. Buchanan wrapped up his career on a 46-game point streak, including a 26-game goal-scoring streak.

In 2008, the Buckeyes were 11-6 and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. The squad, ranked third nationally in scoring offense, shared the GWLL title with a 4-1 mark in conference play.
