Recently, Buckeye Legend, Bill Willis, the first African American player at Ohio State to earn All American Status, had his 1942 National Championship Ring stolen as well as his Cleveland Browns Championship Ring. Bill Willis starred at Ohio State and was an All American lineman in 1942 and 1943. After college, Willis went on to play for the Cleveland Browns and is still considered one of the first black players to start in the National Football League.
Police have since recovered the Cleveland Browns ring, but the Ohio State ring is still missing.
Bill will be honored at halftime of the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin with the retiring of his number. 99 will be the 7th number that Ohio State has retired. Bill will also receive a replica of his stolen National Championship Ring at this halftime honor.
