Helwagen, 39, is currently the managing editor of Bucknuts Media Network. In that capacity, he oversees the editorial content for Bucknuts.com, Bucknuts The Magazine, JJHuddle.com and Ohio High magazine. He is also an active contributor to the weekly Bucknuts Radio Hour.

He is a native of Circleville , Ohio , and a graduate of The Ohio State University School of Journalism. During his time at Ohio State , he served as a reporter and sports editor of the Lantern.

Helwagen spent three years as the sports editor of The Circleville Herald and two more years as the editor of The Urbana Daily Citizen. He won a number of Brown Publishing and statewide awards during his time at those two newspapers.

In December 1994, Helwagen became the editor of Buckeye Sports Bulletin. In that role, he was recognized as an award winner in both the Football Writers Association of America and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association best writing contests.

He became the managing editor at Bucknuts in August 2003 and continues in that role. In that capacity, he oversees one of the most popular college fan Internet sites in the country.

He and his wife, Amy Hoovler, reside in Pataskala , Ohio , with their three children, 7-year-old twins Carter and Dolen and 5-year-old daughter Lindey.
